Helensburgh is a town of 5000 people located between Sydney and Wollongong, 25 km south of the Sydney CBD.

Helensburgh School of Arts was founded in 1894. There is a mention of the School in the Sydney Morning Herald of Thursday 29th October 1908:

Helensburgh, Wednesday –The School of Arts debaters have challenged the members of the Workmen’s Social and Literary Club to debate on Socialism.

The School of Arts building stood on the site of the present day Community Centre. After the First World War, it became the Soldiers’ Memorial Hall. The Memorial Hall was later destroyed by fire.
